A Travel experience by a Golf Professional
In the last couple of months I have experienced what most people in golf dream about in a life time and there for I decided to start giving my view of destinations and things around it and also of what would be the best golf holiday for your need as a good player but also for the amateur who is looking for something easier or have different needs. I will try to cover it for most players but to be able to do that feel free of contacting me if you have questions and of course also if you like us to help you create an amazing holiday.
I will start with what would be the most normal thing and that is of course to give my own input and my own tips about hometown Marbella and its areas.
About 20 years ago I started to come to Marbella. I stayed my first time in Puerto Banus on my own and went everyday to train at the Swedish known golf club Los Naranjos. Still today it is very know among Swedish players but also for its great terrace and food in the restaurant.
If you deciding to come to Costa del Sol I guess the first question you need to ask yourself and your friends is what budget you want to put. Some people don’t want to spend so much money on golf and prefer spend more money on great food and some people are the other way around. In my opinion there is something for everyone and if we today are talking about golf courses there is basically two types of courses around Costa del Sol. You have my list of high-end courses, which I truly love to play, and that is courses like.
San Roque Club
Real Club Valderrama
Finca Cortesin
Real Club Sotogrande
La Reserva Sotogrande
All of these courses are located closer to the Sotogrande area and for decent money it is possible to play all these courses during your stay with buggies and experience the best Spain and maybe also Europe has to offer. All these courses are very demanding for the player but if you feel confident in your game and you want to play the best this is what you should go for.
Other high-end courses in the area are the courses around Marbella. Most of these courses are members courses and difficult to get a tee time on. But if you have a chance to play
Real Club de Las Brisas
Aloha Golf Club
La Zagaleta
Then you have another part of golf courses which I will bring to your attention next time.
Regards to restaurants in the Marbella area there is a big number of choices. I have been traveling a lot during my career but there are a few places I love to come back to once a while. First out if you like Argentinian meat is Tango Restaurant, which is located in Puerto Banus. What makes the restaurant great is the feeling of a family restaurant and the warmth among the staff. Don’t miss out with proper Argentinian steaks and my recommendation is the fillet steak with the foie gras. Go here on a Thursday or a Friday when there is live Tango or Flamenco songs. It is a hidden star in Puerto Banus and if you also pass by Madrid you can now find them in Barrio Salamanca.
Another place know for its quality of the food and also of the beauty of its place is the fish and seafood place El Ancla that is located on the beach of the San Pedro Area. This is my without any doubt my favorite beach restaurant in Marbella. During daytime you can also have lunch and lay by the pool. Do not miss out of the very good “salpicon dish”
The third and last place I will recommend is D-Wine. It is a great restaurant and if you are into wine this is the place to go. With thousands of bottles from all over you will for sure find your own favorite together with one of the sommeliers. My favorite dish here is the “suckling pig” and if you like chocolate you need to go for the “world of chocolate”
Next time I will bring to attention another segment of golf courses, what to do around the golf, excursions and also little bit of the night life in Marbella area.
