A Travel experience by a Golf Professional
Just after coming back from Augusta last year I was invited to play Royal Bled International Pro Am for the first year and after having heard about this place I had a great feeling without knowing anything about Royal Bled or Slovenia more then what I have seen when I was young on TV watching Stenmarks ski races in Kranjska Gora. There is several ways to get to Bled and the best is to fly directly to Ljubljana but other good options is also to go to Klagenfurt in Vienna and if you don’t find any good connections you can fly into Vienna and drive the 4 hour drive to Royal Bled.
My suggestion is to stay at the very luxury Royal Bled Hotel if you can but there are also a lot of other options and with an amazing view over the Lake Bled you have several hotels in the small town.
Back to the golf course I have heard so much about. It is an old course who recently been redesigned by the new owners Solaks. Basically from the moment you enter the course until the moment you leave you will have the most amazing experience with a great layout together with the magic Slovenian nature around the golf course.
My favorite holes on the course are with out no doubt the very intimidating 10th, a short par 3 but protected with only water around it and a 3 would be a great score. Also the par 4 15th is a fantastic hole and you need to watch yourself on the approach to the green. Just a small mistake you will end up short with an almost impossible approach or long into the water hazard.
I would recommend this place to everyone and while you are in Bled don’t miss to go up to the castle and have an amazing dinner and take some great photos for you to remember Slovenia.
